Avelino L. Zapanta
Chairman of the Board
Mr. Avelino L. Zapanta, Chairman of the Board of Directors, graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1972, with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He attained his post-graduate degree from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business in 1990. He then went on to become the Senior Vice President in Marketing & Sales of Philippine Airlines in 1992 and later, its President and Chief Operating Officer in 1999. He was also part of the Philippine State College of Aeronautics’ Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2009. In 2006, Mr. Zapanta became President and Chief Executive Officer of South East Asian Airlines. Currently, he is among MB Life’s Board of Directors.

Edgardo S. Montesclaros
Mr. Edgardo S. Montesclaros graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Sto. Tomas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Math, Major in Actuarial Science. In 1983, he gained the title as Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) with distinction. He completed his Master’s Degree in Business Management at the Asian Institute of Management and earned doctoral units in the De La Salle University. In 1991, he became the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Jardine CMG Life Insurance Corporation. He also attended the General Management Program at Ashridge College, London, England in 1994. He later went on to become the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Home Credit Mutual Building and Loan Association (MBLA). Currently, he holds the prestigious titles of Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman of Manila Bankers Life Insurance Corporation.

Mabini L. Juan
Member of the Board
Mr. Mabini L. Juan graduated from the University of the Philippines with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He then pursued his studies further at the University of Michigan where he acquired a Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Major in Actuarial Science. He then went on to become the Vice President and Actuary of PhilAm Life (Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company) and later rose to become the company’s Executive Vice President. In 1990, he became a Management Consultant for Insular Life and later joined the company, as it’s Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Currently, he serves as the president of Actuarial Advisers Inc. (AAI), which was founded by him on September 17, 1989, and the President, Chief Executive Officer, and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Manila Bankers Life Insurance Corporation. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (U.S.A) and the Actuarial Society of the Philippines.

Atty. Clarence D. Guerrero
Atty. Clarence D. Guerrero is a Bachelor of the Arts from the De La Salle University, and a Bachelor of Laws from the Ateneo De Manila University. Atty. Guerrero became the Director and Corporate Secretary of the Dona Nicasia Realty Corporation in 1999. He then went on to become the Director of Smart Bank Incorporated in 2001 and President of Fuelco Ventures Incorporated in the year 2007. Presently, he is MB Life’s Corporate Secretary and part of it’s Board of Directors.

Panfilo P. de la Paz
Treasurer and Member of the Board
Mr. Panfilo de la Paz is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathemathics. He completed his Masters Degree in Actuarial Mathematics at the State University of Iowa in 1964. He served as Assistant Actuary in the Insurance Commission from 1966 through 1970. He then became Assistant Actuary of the country’s Social Security System from 1971-1972. Mr. de la Paz also served as Actuarial Consultant at Lincoln National Re in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1986 to 1989 and at Hewitt Associates in Lincolnshire, Illinois from 1989 to 1992. He then joined Mapfre Asian Insurance in 1995 as it’s Senior Vice President and Actuary in 2000 through 2006, prior to joining MB Life. Currently, Mr. de la Paz is the company’s treasurer, and a member of the Board of Directors. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Actuarial Society of the Philippines.

Ricardo G. Golpeo
Member of the Board
Mr. Ricardo Golpeo graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Liberal Arts. He held the position of Action Officer for almost three years at the Manila International Airport Authority. He then went on to become the Director of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and eventually assumed the post of General Manager in 2001. In that same year, he became a consultant of Fortune Medicare. Presently, Mr. Golpeo is part of the Board of Directors of Manila Bankers Life Insurance.

Hector A. Barrios
Member of the Board
Mr. Hector A. Barrios graduated from the De La Salle University in 1962, with degrees in Liberal Arts and Commerce. He attended the Strategic Business Economics Center for Research and Education in 1977. He then became a Director for the Dona Nicasia Realty Corporation and Smart Bank in 1998, as well as the TMBC Investment Corporation from 1988 to 2007. Mr. Barrios then headed MB Life’s Marketing Division from 2004 to 2005. He then went on to become one of the Manila banking corporation’s directors, as well as it’s treasurer and Executive Vice President from 2006 to 2007. Mr. Hector Barrios is currently one of the Directors of MB Life Insurance.

Benjamin J. Yambao
Member of the Board
Mr. Benjamin Y. Yambao is a certified public accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Since 2011, he has been part of the Metropolitan Waterworks & Sewerage System’s Board of Trustees. He has assumed key titles in numerous organizations from 1960 – 2007, such as being a Senior Staff Auditor of Carlos J. Valdes & Co., CPAs from 1967 to 1970. He then also took the role of Senior Bank Examiner at the then Central Bank of the Philippines from 1970 to 1975, and became a member of the Commission on Supervision of Financial Intermediaries headed by the then Deputy Governor Jaime C. Laya in 1975. He also acted as a manager for investments of a deposit-taking company he helped organize in Hong Kong from 1976-1977. He would later go on to be President of the Manila Banking Corporation from 1999 – 2007. His other notable positions include being President of the Chamber of Thrift Banks (2005), after which he assumed the title of Consultant to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Thrift Banks (2007), Chairman of the Board of Smartbank (Rural Bank), Inc. (2000), Director & Treasurer of Doña Nicasia Realty, Inc. (2008); and consultant of First Sovereign Asset Management (SPV-AMC), Inc. (2007).

Bienvenido S. Policarpio
Member of the Board
Mr. Bienvenido S. Policarpio is an international motivation and resource speaker. He is a licensed instructor and a distinguished speaker who has conducted multiple workshops in the country as well as abroad. Currently, Mr. Policarpio is the Chief Marketing Officer of MB Life Insurance Company, and sits as a board member for three other corporations. He graduated from San Beda College with double degrees in A.B. Economics and B. S. Marketing. He pursued a Masters degree in Business Administration at the De La Salle University and a Masters degree in Business Economics at the University of Asia and the Pacific. Mr. Policarpio is a former President of the Philippine Marketing Association and a founder of the Rotary Club of Makati Cristo Rey. His vocational project, called “Ethical Leadership in Management and Corporate Governance Roadshow” won him and for his Rotary Club the Top Award besting 25,000 rotary clubs worldwide. Apart from being a Squadron Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary 107, Mr. Policarpio is also the official coach to the Binibining Pilipinas Charities and an Assistant Conductor of the world-renowned Ave Maria Male Choir and the John Van de Steen Male Choir. In 2008, Mr. Policarpio received the Haligi Award, given by the Philippine Marketing Association and the Tambuli Award given by the University of Asia and the Pacific. He is also a recipient of the Tanglaw ng Karunungan Award given by the Association of Marketing Educators in 1998.

Mr. Estero L. Balotro, FLMI, is President and Director of Asian Actuaries Inc., Treasurer of Smart Bank, and Chairman of List Strategist, Inc. He was the President and Director of Eastmont Direct Management Corporation, direct marketing arm of Manila Bankers Life Insurance Corporation (MB Life) then.
